Book two: Michelle's Mission

The guardian watched anxiously as Michelle placed the bowl carefully on the grassy knoll. He could see the cat hiding at the edge of the tree line and could sense the evil demon within its body.
  Michelle’s guardian had been most diligent for the past two years, but never had there been even the slightest hint of danger. Recently he had allowed himself to relax and experience the wonders that surrounded him here on Earth. There was so much to see and hear that he was sometimes a little distracted.
  Michelle had only just started to leave food for the cat and it was the first time that their feline friend had ventured so close. The guardian had never been near the animal before and he could feel the evil emanating from him.
  As Michelle bent down, the cat began to call to her. She looked up quickly as Thomas started to walk out of the trees about twenty yards away. For the first time since he had fled the house two years ago, he appeared quite normal. In the past he had remained hidden in the woods, but they had heard him, spitting and snarling as if to warn the humans away.
  “Hello Thomas,” she said and immediately the cat’s tail went up in greeting.
 Michelle moved slowly towards him, her hand outstretched, ready to pet him. The guardian stiffened and placed himself between the cat and his human charge, but still Thomas continued to approach Michelle.
 “You recognise me then,” she went on. “Who’s a good boy? It looks to me as if you've got rid of that nasty demon.”
  “No, no!” shouted the guardian, even though he knew that she could not hear him. Fear ripped through him as he realised just what the demon was going to do. 'He must have gained control of the cat, somehow,' he thought, trying desperately to protect Michelle.
 But the cat just looked at the guardian, licked his lips and moved forward purposely.......................
